The Good Governance, Justice and Peace directorate of NABOCADO, organized a highly beneficial capacity training session for border protection monitors from communities along the Ghana-Burkina Faso border in the Upper East Region.
This significant training initiative was made possible through the UNHCR-Caritas Ghana Project, a collaborative effort between the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Caritas Ghana. The project is being implemented by NABOCADO, the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development Organization, renowned for its remarkable contributions to humanitarian causes.
The training session was a vital component of the project’s comprehensive approach to address the pressing issue of Burkinabes seeking asylum in Ghana. These individuals have been forced out of their homes due to the relentless attacks perpetrated by violent extremists in Burkina Faso. Recognizing the urgent need to provide assistance and support to these displaced individuals, the project aims to offer a humanitarian intervention that ensures their safety and well-being.
The primary objective of the training, held on a Monday, was to equip the border protection monitors with upgraded tools and skills essential for effectively carrying out their crucial duties. These dedicated monitors play a pivotal role in monitoring and reporting on Burkinabes seeking asylum, particularly those who first arrive in the border communities.
During the training, the monitors were provided with comprehensive presentations on Border Protection Monitoring and Reporting. These informative sessions covered various aspects, including the identification of potential asylum seekers, the documentation of their cases, and the reporting procedures necessary for their protection and support. Additionally, the monitors received thorough training on the utilization of Kobocollect, a cutting-edge data gathering tool that enables efficient and accurate information collection.
To further enhance their capabilities, the monitors were also presented with brand new smartphones. These devices will serve as invaluable aids in their critical work, enabling them to gather and transmit vital information promptly and securely. Equipped with these upgraded tools and skills, the monitors are now better prepared to fulfill their responsibilities in monitoring and reporting on Burkinabes seeking asylum.
The capacity training session was a success, empowering the border protection monitors with the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to carry out their duties effectively.
